Conversion rate calculator

The share of visitors or leads that take the action you want, plus the traffic you need to hit a conversion target at that rate.

Formulas: conversion rate = conversions ÷ visitors × 100; visitors needed = target ÷ conversion rate. Measure both numbers over the same period and the same step of the funnel.

Conversion rate is the percentage of visitors, leads or recipients who take the action you wanted, and it is the multiplier that links traffic to results. Enter visitors and conversions for the rate and conversions per 1,000 visitors; enter a target as well and the calculator tells you how many visitors you need to reach it at your current rate, which is the number that turns a sales goal into a traffic and advertising plan.

Conversion Rate Calculator

Conversion rate is the percentage of people who did what you wanted: bought, signed up, replied, booked. The conversion rate calculator divides conversions by visitors, so 300 sales from 12,000 visits is a 2.5% conversion rate, or 25 sales per 1,000 visitors. The same maths works at every stage of a funnel, from email opens to trial sign-ups to paid upgrades.

Enter a target and the calculator turns the rate into a traffic plan: 500 sales at 2.5% needs 20,000 visitors, 8,000 more than you have. That comparison is the practical value of the number. Doubling the conversion rate halves the traffic, and therefore the ad spend, needed for the same result, which is why a small improvement on a checkout page is often worth more than a large increase in the marketing budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good conversion rate?

For e-commerce sites 2–3% is typical and 5% is strong; landing pages for lead generation often convert at 5–15%; email click-to-purchase rates vary widely. Compare against your own history and similar businesses rather than a single global average.

How do I measure conversions correctly?

Count visitors and conversions over the same period and the same step of the funnel, and use unique visitors rather than page views where you can. Mixing a month of traffic with a week of sales gives a meaningless rate.

Is it better to raise conversion rate or traffic?

A 1-point rise in conversion rate from 2% to 3% delivers 50% more sales from the same traffic and the same ad spend, so improving the page is often cheaper than buying more visitors. The calculator's 'extra visitors needed' line shows the traffic alternative.
