Tax deducted at source by section. The TDS Calculator takes payment amount, section and rate and returns tds to deduct plus net payment to the payee, rate applied. Results update as you type, and the formula is shown under the result so you can repeat it in your own spreadsheet.
Indian tax rules change with each Finance Act and GST Council meeting. The rates here follow the current published rules, but confirm the figures on the official portals or with a chartered accountant before filing or invoicing. Use the worked example below to check the maths against your own figures.
How the TDS Calculator works
Tax deducted at source is withheld by the payer at the rate fixed for the type of payment and deposited with the government; the payee gets credit for it. Threshold limits apply below which no TDS is due (for example ₹50,000 a year for professional fees under 194J).
Worked example
With the example values (payment amount of ₹100,000, section and rate "10% – 194J professional fees, 194I rent of land or building, 194A interest"), the tds to deduct is ₹10,000.00; net payment to the payee ₹90,000.00, rate applied 10%. Change any figure above and the result updates immediately; use Copy results to paste the summary into a note or email.
Assumptions and limits: Rates as currently notified; thresholds, lower-deduction certificates and the 20% no-PAN rate are not applied automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is tds to deduct calculated?
TDS = payment amount × section rate; net payment = amount − TDS.

Are the rates current?
The calculator uses the rates and rules published for the current financial year and shows them under the result. Rates change with each Budget and GST Council decision, so verify on the official portal before filing.
What assumptions does this calculator make?
Rates as currently notified; thresholds, lower-deduction certificates and the 20% no-PAN rate are not applied automatically.
